Telekito (Free Sci-Fi Visual Novel) Introduction and Review

テレキト(フリー・SFビジュアルノベル)紹介・感想 game
This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

Preface

I remember playing another game by the same author called "Eternal" in the past and really enjoying it.
Since this is the author's latest work, I thought it would be interesting, so I decided to play it.
I haven't kept an exact count of my playtime, but I think it was around 8 to 10 hours.
In addition to being a game playable on PCs, it's also available as a smartphone app.

Game Overview

Basically, it's a visual novel game where you progress by reading through the text.
The choices you are presented with from time to time can change the subsequent events and influence the ending.

The synopsis is as follows (excerpted from the website):

The year is 2095. The setting is the moon.

The "Catastrophe of 2092," caused by the malfunction of the integrated artificial intelligence computer "Tellus," resulted in the deaths of 10 billion people on Earth.

The few humans who survived on Earth established their last habitable space on the moon, the "Provisional Government on the Moon," in order to survive.

Having seized control of Earth, "Tellus" aims to wipe out all of humanity from space, sending autonomous weapons to the moon and threatening the survival of humans on the lunar surface.

The five girls from "Telekit," born on the moon, join a special unit called "SISTARS" to fight against autonomous weapons sent by "Tellus" and protect humanity.

That's the story.
The story begins from the perspective of Yui, a telekinetic from the moon, as she battles autonomous weapons sent by Tellus.
After reading a certain amount, you can also choose to see episodes from a different character's perspective.
As you read through the character's story, new episodes will appear, allowing you to continue reading.

It includes all the basic functions, such as skipping read text, skipping unread text, auto-progression, and save/load.
The skip speed is quite fast, so even if you play it repeatedly, it won't take much time.

Review (no spoilers)

I'll write my impressions for those who haven't played it yet.

I found this to be a very easy-to-read science fiction novel with a straightforward writing style.
Even though it's science fiction, it's not set in the distant future, but rather in the near future, a future that feels connected to our modern society.
The author seems to have made an effort to avoid using technical jargon and difficult terms as much as possible, introducing them gradually only when necessary.

At first, the premise seemed rather commonplace, but I was able to enjoy reading it consistently from beginning to end.
The reason is,The pacing of the story and the situation is excellent.I think that's the main reason.
I think the reason it's so easy to read is because the writing isn't overly verbose and the descriptions are rather concise.
In addition,The skillful placement of past episodes and plot points is a testament to the show's masterful storytelling.I think that's the second reason.
I think the reason they can keep players engaged until the very end is because they skillfully maintain interest at just the right moments to prevent them from getting bored.
Even after the main story ended, new facts were revealed, and I felt it remained interesting until the very end.

It's not what you'd call "hard science fiction," but rather science fiction that's easy for anyone to read and understand.
However, despite being easy to understand, it encompasses various themes and I thought it was a well-crafted work.
If you're interested in topics like humans and robots, AI, and space development, I highly recommend you give it a read.
