How Long Does It Take to Beat *Dragon Quest XI*? My Impressions After Defeating the Final Boss in 60 Hours on the 3DS Version (Spoilers Ahead)

This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

I've been playing Dragon Quest 11 for over 60 hours and have even managed to defeat the final boss (on the main story).
I'm currently playing through the post-game world, and I'm surprisingly enjoying the many side events.
I'd like to share some of my thoughts on the period between my last article and this one.

① First total party wipeout: Battle against the demon dragon Nedra

I thought the difficulty of the battles in this Dragon Quest game would be low, but I was wiped out by the demon dragon Nedra.
Thanks to that, my money, which was about 80,000 gold, has been cut in half...
When the boss attacks two or three times, and it involves area-of-effect attacks plus status effects that cause incapacitation, I feel like it's really tough to do without any countermeasures.

However, this Nedra is fairly susceptible to Lullaby, so you can pretty much completely shut him down with just that.
Many of the bosses in this game are quite susceptible to the Lullaby spell, and once I realized this, the battles became much easier.

② Reunion with the last comrade

I was shocked by this unexpected turn of events.
I was very surprised because I was playing without any prior information.
There was a similar development in Dragon Quest VII, if you will...

③ Making a fortune playing roulette at a casino

The order is a bit mixed up, but I managed to hit the jackpot three times at the roulette table in Grotta's casino and made some money.
Talk to the bunny girl who explains the jackpot, and repeat the process of staying at the inn and talking to her until she says she has a feeling you're about to win.
After the dialogue appears, save your game at the church, and then simply bet one point on every number in the roulette wheel.
Roulette was a very tedious and repetitive task because of the coin betting, but I did it casually while watching TV and managed to earn about 3 million coins.

If you have a large supply of Elf's Potions, you can pretty much brute-force your way through all the upcoming boss battles.

④ Second total party wipeout: Battle against Ulrnoga & Ulrnaga

After that, things went smoothly, and I challenged the final boss when I reached around level 50.
However, we were completely wiped out, so I spent some time leveling up and improving my equipment.
For equipment, I acquired the Metal Slime Armor and Helmet in Homura Village.
Furthermore, I equipped the main character, Greig, Silvia, and Serena with shields, prioritizing defense.
I mainly used Spectacle Show to level up, and hunted Metal King Slimes with Camus's guaranteed critical hit and Martina's Lightning Flash Thrust.

During the turn a spectacular show is performed, metal-type monsters do not act, so a critical hit is guaranteed to defeat at least one of them.
Once Camus's level is high enough, or if you equip him with an item like the Starfall Bracelet, you can reliably hunt two of them.

I've managed to raise my level up to around 90 with this.

⑤ After clearing the game

Because I leveled up an absurd amount, I was able to defeat the main boss very easily.
With Camus's dual-wielding clones and the protagonist's Ultima Sword, I was able to brute-force my way through.
After clearing the game, you travel to the past to alter history, which is a popular theme these days, so it's exciting for the player.

In adventure game terms, it's like the true ending after the normal ending.

At the same time, it was incredibly painful knowing that after the collapse, I would never again see the companions I had traveled with.

Even if you go back in time and reunite with your friends, they will be friends from a different timeline, and therefore different from the friends you traveled with in the post-apocalyptic world.

Thinking about the feelings of the companions who see off the protagonist as he decides to return to the past, I was unexpectedly moved, even though I'm not young anymore.
Many of the episodes from the journey after the collapse were quite moving, so it's a little sad to think that they'll be erased from existence.
For the surviving residents, it would be best if it never happened after the collapse, and since it remains as an experience for the protagonist, I think it's fine.
Anyway, it seems there are still many side events in the past world, so I'll play a bit more.
This will probably be my last article.
