Hungry Witch Colosseum (Free Non-Field RPG) Introduction, Impressions, and Strategy Notes

腹ぺこウィッチコロシアム(フリー・ノンフィールドRPG)紹介・感想・攻略メモ game
This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

I played "Hungry Witch Colosseum," a short, non-field RPG created with the WOLF RPG Editor.
Winner of the 11th WoodyCon overall in 2019Eddie's Human CannonThis is a work by the same author as "[Title of previous work]".
This game features a surreal and unique worldview, a compelling human drama, and a very fast-paced gameplay experience.
It's a short game that can be completed in less than two hours, so you can enjoy it quickly.
After clearing the game, your battle record will be displayed, so dedicated players can enjoy aiming for a high score.

Game Overview (No Spoilers)

The story follows Nina, who has achieved her dream of becoming a witch, as she aims for the number one ranking in the arena with advice from her senior, Lily.
Between regular arena battles, you'll train and earn money through manual labor in coal mines and adventures.

When you go mining or on adventures, your SP will decrease rapidly.
SP represents your satiety level; if you get hungry, you'll become unable to act unless you eat.
Since you gain experience points when you recover lost SP through eating, it's important to eat frequently.
You can gain experience points through combat, but the speed at which you level up will change depending on whether you utilize both combat and meals.

Adventure has elements that differ from working in a coal mine.
As you explore, battles will occur, and you may also discover treasure chests or encounter traveling merchants.
In any case, you'll get hungry when you're out and about, so it's important to bring food with you when you go on an adventure.

By defeating the boss waiting in the depths of the dungeon, you can acquire new skill equipment.
Skills you acquire become usable when you equip them, but like consumables, they have a limited number of uses.
Once you acquire it, you can purchase it from the store, so be sure to replenish your stock there if needed.

The battles are one-on-one turn-based command battles, with the faster character taking turns acting.
Each action you take will decrease your SP, and once your SP reaches zero, your only option is to run away.
Before facing a tough enemy, make sure to eat a meal and ensure you have enough SP before engaging in battle.

As you start earning money, you'll be able to buy skills at shops and items useful for exploration, expanding your range of actions.

Review (no spoilers)

The story and gameplay had a great pace, and I was able to enjoy it all the way through to the end in one go.
The activities described are so far removed from what the word "witch" implies that it's a setting that makes you want to point out the absurdity of it all.
When Lily suggested I do manual labor in the coal mine at the beginning, I thought she was some kind of shady con artist.

As expected from a game made with WOLF RPG Editor, the game runs smoothly overall, so there was almost no stress in terms of performance.
If you're just aiming to clear the game, the difficulty isn't high; if you level up and overpower the enemies with brute force, you shouldn't have any trouble.
However, if you aim to defeat them in fewer turns, you'll likely need to optimize your skills and equipment.

This is a fast-paced, non-field RPG, so if you're looking for a casual and enjoyable game, why not give it a try?

Strategy Notes (Spoiler Warning)

In my case, I haven't attempted any optimized playthroughs to achieve the fastest possible clear time, so I'll just describe a method that allows you to clear the game.
Just like Nina, your opponent also has SP (Special Points), so if you endure their attacks, your SP will run out and you will be unable to attack.
If you just keep defending and then start attacking once the opponent runs out of SP, you can usually defeat them.

However, you should also be careful about running out of SP (Spring Power).
If you equip the "Food M Speed Eating" skill, you won't have to worry about running out of SP during battle, as long as you have Food M prepared.
If you stick to this strategy, you should be able to clear it easily.

However, this strategy takes many turns, so if you want to shorten the number of turns, you will need to devise a different strategy.
