Myosotis (Free exploration and escape adventure game)

Myosotis ミオソティス(フリー・探索脱出ADVゲーム) game
This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

I recently played Dodd Koubou's free game "The Vanished Scream," which I found very enjoyable, so I also played this game, "Myosotis."
The game itself can be completed in about 30 minutes, but it was a very memorable experience.

Download it here (from "Dod Studio").

Game Overview

This is an exploration adventure game where your goal is to escape from a locked house haunted by mysterious monsters.
Basically, you explore various locations while avoiding monsters, solving puzzles and making progress.

If you come into contact with the monster, you will be injected with a syringe and suffer damage.
Let's explore various parts of the house while skillfully avoiding potential hazards.
To solve the mystery, you'll sometimes need to read diaries, letters, and other documents placed in various locations and use your deductive reasoning.
When you finally clear the game and the truth is revealed, you'll probably feel an indescribable emotion.

Review (contains spoilers)

From here on are my impressions, but there are some very important spoilers, so you should not read them before you finish the game.

I played on the normal difficulty setting.
I was surprised when the monster first appeared.
Since the setting is a relatively small house, I played the game feeling anxious about when I would encounter someone.
On the hellish difficulty setting, your HP is only 1, and the monsters charge at you, making the experience several times more terrifying.
When you get defeated, it happens in an instant, without you even understanding why.

The game's walkthrough is at the end.I had to rely on the official walkthrough page to find the dial-type unlock code.
However, the specific numbers apparently change with each playthrough, so I solved it by taking notes and such on my own.

At the end, when they inject the monster and escape,"Is this really okay?"That awkward feeling was indescribable.
And when I realized the truth at the end, I felt very sad.

Playing through the game a second time reveals many new discoveries.
The blue text that appears in diaries and other documents clearly contains important clues for moving forward,Even if the information isn't used for walkthroughs, important parts for understanding the story are highlighted in blue.
For example, in the notebook titled "About Her" that is kept in the storage room, several items are written in blue.
These items areThings she could no longer remember, and things she had lost.I suspect that it corresponds to various parts of the game.

- Location (layout of this house)... The player = the girl does not know the layout of this house.
- Work style... The spinning wheel is left unattended while the green thread is being spun.
- Her age... She perceives herself as a young girl.
- About me... Even after injecting the monster and waking up from the hallucination, when I search for "me," it displays "I can't remember."
- Hallucinations and delusions... The person perceives "me" as a monster and tries to inject me with something strange (there's also a delusional note in the flowerpot at the starting point).

This game's appeal lies in the fact that things aren't explicitly stated within the game itself, allowing players to deduce the answer from fragmented information.
The way they expanded on a single idea, creating a narrative trick that could be described as a game-like device, was very refreshing.
Below, I will simply list the points that I have interpreted and found convincing.

The protagonist likely has severe dementia.
The bookshelves are all placed so as to block the windows, to prevent the protagonist from going outside and getting into an accident (to protect the protagonist).
Based on the diary entry stating that "I" was having trouble sleeping, it is believed that the contents of the syringe were sleeping pills.
Normally, strong sleeping pills that are administered by injection are not available to individuals, but perhaps he explained his situation to a retired pharmacist friend and was able to obtain some from them.
Judging from the sound effects at the end, it appears the protagonist was hit by a car.
・"I" am also unlikely to be unharmed, given that I was injected with such a large amount of sleeping pills that the white powder did not completely dissolve, and also because of the knife wounds.

It's been a while! I finally managed to clear the free game Harchium.
The increasing number of playable characters almost made me give up, but it suddenly became really interesting towards the end, and I enjoyed it.
I love SRPGs, but the inflation of power levels between playable characters and enemy characters, and the item management in the later stages, is really tough. I guess that's just the fate of SRPGs, isn't it?
I have trauma from giving up on Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden because of that.
Hartium was really well done and fun. It's amazing that something of this quality is free.
Next, I plan to play Granseal Chronicle.
