This post can be read in about 10 minutes.
*This page is an introductory article for the free version of "Rera Kamuy Story ~Hatred and Atonement~".
Please note that this is not a paid remake.
A paid remake of "Rera Kamuy Story: Hatred and Atonement" was released on February 12, 2026.
(As of February 2026, the price is ¥1,650) The DLsite link (affiliate) is shown in the image below.

I completed the free game "Rerakamuy Story ~Hatred and Atonement~" made with "SRPG Studio".
This is a fantasy-heavy, long-form SRPG consisting of 40 chapters (plus side stories).
I got so engrossed in the game that I played it all in one go, so I thought I'd write a review and my impressions of it.

In my case, I played on "Normal" difficulty, and it took me about 20 hours to complete the game.

Game Overview and Features

The game itself is a fairly standard simulation RPG.

Difficulty

There are four difficulty levels available.
There are four modes: "SNO mode (a mode where you can just talk)", "Casual", "Normal", and "Hardware-based".
SNO mode is for those who only want to follow the story, and you can clear it immediately by defeating the slimes on the map.
I played on "Normal" difficulty, and I was able to clear it fairly quickly.
If you're a player who enjoys high-difficulty SRPGs (such as "Vestaria Saga" and "Berwick Saga"), you'll probably find "Normal" mode easy.

However, as the game progresses into the later stages, it gradually becomes more challenging.
Basic strategies and tips are included in the "read me" and "strategy guide" text files that come with the game files, so please refer to them if you get stuck.

About the story

Unusually for this type of SRPG, "war" is not the theme.
Therefore, I felt that a distinctive feature was that enemy units were often not human.
The story has a truly fantastical feel, making you feel like you're on an adventure around the world.

It's not a heavy, serious story; rather, thanks to the protagonist's personality, the narrative progresses through lighthearted conversations.
While there are many serious scenes from the middle of the story onward, the text is written in an easy-to-understand style to avoid becoming too heavy.

Stages and maps

As mentioned earlier, this is a work that shows a great deal of attention to detail in its maps.
The feeling of adventuring in various places is conveyed very well.
The game cleverly integrates familiar RPG terrains such as caves, water temples, volcanic regions, and snow-capped mountains with the systems of a simulation RPG.

The graphics of this ravaged and burning city are also powerful and beautiful.

The game is designed to avoid repetitive maps, making it less likely to become boring.
Each stage features a variety of map gimmicks, with the terrain changing depending on the number of turns passed and the number of remaining enemies, often resulting in the appearance of reinforcements.
In war stories, the locations where battles take place tend to be similar, so I think this aspect is refreshing.

Additionally, there are many hidden items scattered throughout the stages, and finding them is another way to complete the game.
Trying to find everything would be overwhelming, so it's best to collect items in a way that suits your play style and doesn't cause you too much stress.

About allied units

As for the units, a fair number of characters will join your party.
However, you don't have to persuade them to join; they basically join naturally.
My impression is that all the members grow to a certain extent, so you should just use the character you like best.
My impression is that it's highly unlikely you'd be screwed because you didn't mentor someone.

Review (contains spoilers)

From the very beginning, there were many names that would make anyone who has played the Fire Emblem series smile, which I found quite amusing.
They even incorporated jokes and memes that were popular on the internet in the past.
Someone unfamiliar with it might be confused, but it didn't bother me.

I was lucky enough to reach the true ending on my first playthrough.
The ending seems to branch depending on your actions from Chapter 26 onwards, but there aren't any clear choices or anything like that, so I'm not entirely sure what the branching conditions were.
I tried to figure out whether or not to use "Twilight" in Chapter 35, but it didn't seem to be the case.
In any case, I'm glad it ended on a positive note.
I will write about the branching conditions once they are determined.

During the game, I rarely encountered any difficulties that prevented me from progressing; I was able to advance smoothly.
However, after the members were completely replaced in Chapter 26, their fighting strength temporarily decreased, and they faced a tough battle.
Chapter 28, "Life Withers Away," in particular, saw an unprecedented number of party members being defeated, and we barely managed to clear it.
Also, I sometimes overlooked the turn limit on the map and ended up with a game over due to running out of time.
The save system is very user-friendly, allowing you to save 50 save data files before a stage and 50 save data files during a stage.
Therefore, you can take as much time as you like to examine the options, and it was easy to play.

The second half was tough because there were so many enemies, so I resorted to a rather crude method: I strengthened Light and Arlie and sent them both into the enemy lines to clear the stage.
If you increase their mobility and teach them consecutive and critical hit skills, both of them can become self-sufficient using the sun, so they won't die in accidents and can defeat bosses.

They truly are unrivaled siblings.
I wanted to include Licht as well, but I had to give up on that idea because I had to worry about the cost of weapons.
(Light has a special weapon with infinite durability, and Arly has a skill that prevents the durability of her light magic from decreasing.)

Other impressions include the fact that the special attack weapons are powerful and come in a wide variety, making them useful when you have a unit you want to level up.
Even low-level units can be used as combat units if they are equipped with special attack weapons.
However, on the other hand, if the enemy had suicide weapons, your units could be easily defeated, so you had to be careful about that.

Character impressions (contains spoilers)

From here on, I will write about my impressions of using the units that were included in the final stage's sortie team.

Light

As expected of the main character, he grew rapidly from the beginning, and if you relied on him, he would quickly reach the level cap.
Giving them magic attacks rather than physical attacks eliminates blind spots in their range, allowing them to become virtually invincible.
With good defensive capabilities and skills like Sun and Evasion, my defenses were impeccable.
By teaching it consecutive attacks and special moves, its ability to guarantee kills also increases, resulting in a unit capable of soloing attacks.

This is a very powerful unit.

・Soranaki

She joins your party later in the game and has a powerful exclusive weapon, but she's fragile and can't be used on the front lines very often.
It seemed like it could become strong if given enough time to raise it.
Aside from the younger sister, is she a potential heroine?

- Helgi

In the Dark World group, they were a reliable unit that could act as a tank.
While it's considerably inferior to Rody and Minerva, it left a strong impression of being reliable, so I deployed it until the very end.
Although the Dark World group doesn't have many episodes, I really liked them as a unit in terms of their characters.

Johan

Since this unit was an advanced class from the start, I didn't think it would level up much, but it turned out to be quite strong.
She was the much-awaited second healer, so I often deployed her in battles.
For some reason, its defensive stats grow well and its lightning magic is also strong, making it a powerful unit capable of holding the front lines.

Yumina

Since he's a thief character, I thought that leveling him up would be useful for opening treasure chests and unlocking doors, but he didn't really come up to the task in those areas.
Instead, thanks to the guaranteed extra action provided by the "Quick Movement" skill, she excelled as a swordsman character with high destructive power.
Although not physically strong, they can be quite effective if equipped with magic-powered swords or special attack weapons such as the "Holy Sword."
Its evasion ability is also very high, so if you enhance its movement speed, it can even charge in alone.

Walt

With good growth in combat-related stats and support effects for surrounding units, this unit can be very effective on the front lines.
Once you become a sniper, you can also equip crossbows, allowing you to function as a front-line fighter covering a range of 1-2.
However, it wasn't particularly resilient, so some caution was needed.

Düsseldorf

While it's certainly not a weak unit, in the later stages, many other much stronger units appear, so it wasn't able to shine as much.
However, like Walt, he provides support to surrounding units, so he can be useful when placed on the front lines.

・Arly

This is the second strongest character.
While slightly inferior to Light in terms of defensive capabilities, this is an unbeatable unit capable of self-sufficiency.
In my case, I taught my character consecutive attacks and special moves, and enhanced their movement speed so that they could charge in alone.
Skills that don't consume light weapons allow you to use long-range spellbooks and rare spellbooks frequently.

・Aeris

As the only healer available from the early stages of the game, this unit is practically unavoidable.
Since there are limited ways to gain experience points,Having your characters acquire skills like "early bloomer" or "elite" will make their growth faster and easier.

・Leiria

Initially a mediocre unit, it became a front-line unit with high evasion as it grew stronger.
Since it can learn consecutive attacks and special moves on its own, equipping it with weapons like the Killer Blade will further increase its destructive power.

Rody

A reliable tank unit from the beginning to the end of the game.
While its defensive capabilities improve significantly, its speed is relatively low, so it's best used primarily as a tank.
Since I can use a variety of weapons, my item slots fill up very quickly, which is a bit of a problem.

Minerva

While not as effective as Roddy as a tank, its speed increases well, giving it relatively high offensive capabilities.
When used in conjunction with Rody, the combined support effect makes it very convenient.

Igraine

Finn, who excels in both offense and defense, joins the team earlier as a flying unit, making this unit feel a bit underwhelming in terms of overall performance.
However, it excels in speed and technique, and having multiple flying units is convenient, so its usefulness is high.
Since being hit by a suicide weapon almost always resulted in being defeated in one hit, it seemed like there were a lot of accidental deaths.

·fin

They join the party early on and can be used effectively as a valuable axe user.
While it has some issues with accuracy, you can monopolize axe-equipped weapons for a while.
Just like with Igraine, we need to be careful about accidental deaths.

Nils

In this game, where there are many monster-type enemies, light magic is powerful and makes this unit very useful.
Because it's not very durable, it's difficult to put it on the front lines, but its ability to annihilate monsters is undeniable.

Strategy Notes

In this game, the walkthrough information is included in the game files, so there isn't much I need to write down.
Therefore, I'd like to share some of my thoughts and feelings while playing, just as a kind of memo.

• How to use bonus exchange
I'm often unsure what to use my bonus points on.
Personally, I found the special attack weapons and swords capable of magic attacks from the "Holy..." series to be very useful against monsters.
Even weaker characters like Yumina can become viable combatants if you equip them with special attack weapons, so I recommend it.

Furthermore, the Book of Deadly Attacks and the Book of Consecutive Attacks are skills that significantly increase a unit's attack performance, despite only costing 2000 points to purchase.
As mentioned earlier, if you teach this skill to units with high skill and speed, such as Light or Arlie, you can significantly strengthen them.

In addition, the Potion of Travel is another recommended item.
Using this on units like Light, Arly, and Roddy, who can charge in alone without worry, makes it easier to disrupt the enemy lines.
When you don't want to bother checking the enemy's attack range, you can use the tactic of just letting your units charge in and whittle them down.

- Points carried over after clearing the game

After clearing the game, you can use points to play from the beginning again.
The shop also stocks items not available in regular bonus shops, allowing you to further strengthen your favorite units and enhance your gameplay.

What is the purpose of the Cup of Contract?
The "Covenant Cup," found in the treasure chest in Chapter 29 and sold in the shop after clearing the game, is apparently a class change item.
The description reads, "Are you prepared to stain your hands with blood?", but its purpose is currently unknown.
I'm wondering if something will happen if I let someone else hold this and level it up.
I'll write again if I find out more.

(Added on October 7, 2020)
The Cup of the CovenantIt appears that using this on Yumina, who has changed her class to Rogue, will allow her to change her class to Assassin.

I vaguely remember that
Could the Cup of the Covenant have been used by a thief or something?
