Analyzing your batting habits from the dirt on your bat (softball)

バットの汚れから自分の打撃の癖を分析する(軟式野球) baseball
This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

The other day at the batting cage, I happened to look at my bat and noticed it was stained black with dirt from hitting the ball.
Since it was a brand new bat that I had recently purchased, the dirty parts and the clean parts are clearly visible.
At that time,I noticed that the dirt on the bat was concentrated in certain areas.

I had an idea about why there was a bias, so I decided to write about it in this article.

Should I use my own bat at the batting cages?

Location of the stain

First, please look at the image below.

This is a photo I took at a batting cage the other day.
You can see that the dirt on the bat only extends to around the "RAWL" section, while the "INGS" section at the tip is clean and unstained.
The core is around the "LI" position, so if you're hitting it centered there, the tip could be a bit dirtier.
I tried to think about why it was stained in this way.

Why isn't the tip dirty?

In conclusion, the reason is that "the bat hasn't been used for long enough."
In other words, in my imagination, the bat is supposed to be a little shorter.
As a result, when hitting the ball, you tend to chase after it slightly, and dirt accumulates near the base of the club.

Possible causes

I've tried to think about what might have caused me to develop this habit.
In conclusion, I think the problem is that there's a discrepancy between the length of the bat I perceive and the actual length of the bat.
I think the starting point for this situation was my stance when batting.
I'm not good at inside pitches, so I stand a little further away from the plate.
I thought that he might be standing far enough away from the plate because he was afraid he wouldn't be able to reach the outside pitches with his bat.
In other words, I think I've developed a habit of trying to hit the ball a little closer to the handle because I'm afraid of swinging and missing the ball right at the tip of the bat.
Indeed, when hitting outside pitches, I felt like I was stepping in a little too far, even though I didn't need to.

Improvement measures

To improve this, you need to train your body to understand that "the bat is a little longer than you imagine."
To achieve that, I think you need to practice hitting from further away from the base to understand the distance the bat can reach.
If you can learn to use the entire length of the bat, I think you'll be able to hit the ball much more easily than you do now.

I think this is a discovery I could only make because I was using a brand new bat at the batting cages.
If you ever have the chance to look at your bat, it might be interesting to take a closer look at where it's dirty.
