Manga Review: "The Committee That Might Have Done It" by Takashi Yoshida

漫画感想「やれたかも委員会」吉田貴司 Manga and anime
This post can be read in about 3 minutes.

It seems this manga was originally published online, but it has now been compiled into a book.
It seems that AbemaTV will be airing a live-action drama adaptation starring Robert's Akiyama.
After seeing that news, I decided to give this manga a read.

I might have been able to have sex with her back then...
The "Could Have Done It Committee" will judge these men's "could have done it" moments.
A poignant yet hilarious and much-talked-about work by manga artist Takashi Yoshida!
Those nights when I could have done it are treasures in my life.

The format of the show is that a guest appears in front of three people who act like interviewers and shares an episode where they think, "I could have done it."
That episode, in particular, evokes a feeling somewhat akin to nostalgia, which is very nice.

It evokes memories of a time when I felt the same way, and how I could have done it if it were today.

Finally, the three judges make their decisions, each offering a word of wisdom to conclude each episode.
The three members are as follows:

① Giseijuku Head Instructor: Akira Nojima

He is a character characterized by his right-angled beard, narrow eyes, and judo-gi-like attire.
Maintaining a compassionate attitude towards guests, he speaks briefly about the importance of stories about what could have been done.
I'll be the first to proudly declare that I "did it."
Every time, I feel like the guests are comforted by his words.

② Musician Paradiso

The person is a young man with slightly long hair, wearing a hat and sunglasses.
I generally agree with the head instructor and give the assessment that they "did well."
Like the head of the cram school, he doesn't show much emotion or sway in his words, but he's surprisingly sensible and calm, and comes across as a bit aloof.
Despite his appearance and background, he doesn't come across as frivolous at all, and personally, I like him as a character.

③ Michiko Tsuki, Representative of the Mixtape Foundation

She is a young woman with long black hair, wearing glasses and a business suit.
男性二人の「やれた」判定に対し、「やれたとは言えない」判定で対立する役目です。
Each episode, the show features a guest who has been rescued by two men, and then a woman offers a blunt critique of their situation from a uniquely female perspective.

Every time, with truly precise words, he pulls the guests (and readers) back to reality from a dreamlike world.

Even she sometimes judges things as "acceptable," so she's not just blindly opposing everything.

These are all very unique members.
Because Tsukishi's words are used to conclude each episode, they leave a bitter aftertaste.
The girls that the guests talk about are also depicted very cutely, and it somehow brings back feelings from my own adolescence.
The artwork, including the style, gives me a similar impression to "Fringeman," and at first I even wondered if it was by the same artist.
If you like "Fringeman," you should definitely read this manga, and if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you check out "Fringeman" as well.
