For the past few years, I've almost completely stopped buying physical comic books and now exclusively read ebooks on my smartphone.
I currently use Yahoo! Bookstore as my main bookstore.
I will write about the advantages and disadvantages of e-books based on my own experience.
What is an e-book?
I feel like this is becoming quite widespread, but these are books that are read on PCs, tablets, or smartphones, rather than being printed on paper.
The pages are displayed as image data, and you read them by progressing through them.
Many viewers now include tools for zooming in and out, and considerable effort has been put into making reading more comfortable.
There are also services that allow you to read books at a lower price than purchasing them, by paying a rental fee for a limited time instead of buying them outright.
Advantages of eBooks
I was also hesitant to buy ebooks at first.
I use Yahoo! Bookstore on my smartphone, but I felt somewhat uneasy about books being just data, without any physical trace.
Since it was the same price as a physical book, I thought it was a better deal to have a physical copy.
However, as I continued to use it, I gradually realized its advantages.
Read anytime, anywhere
I think this is the best and greatest advantage.
It's not bulky, and you can read it even during short waiting times.
Because I can fill even a little bit of free time, waiting in my daily life no longer bothers me.
You'll know as soon as the latest volume is released.
I don't think this is unique to Yahoo! Bookstore, but I receive notifications when new volumes of comics I subscribe to are released.
Therefore, you can read the next installment smoothly as soon as it comes out, and you don't need to go to a bookstore each time.
A wide range of services are available, including free sample reading.
E-book stores often offer the first few volumes of a series for free for a limited time.
In a bookstore, it's difficult to actually read something even if it catches your eye, but with ebooks, you can easily browse them without any pressure.
I started reading "Kingdom," which I'm currently continuing to read, because of a free promotional campaign.
The first five volumes were free, and I'm a good example of someone who got hooked after reading them.
Services like this greatly improve the chances of discovering interesting manga.
Disadvantages of eBooks
On the other hand, there are certainly disadvantages as well.
The text is too small unless you have something the size of an iPad Mini.
I usually read on my iPhone, but the screen is small.
Naturally, the font size is also small, so comics with a lot of text are difficult to read.
(Things like Death Note and mystery stories are very difficult.)
A tablet would probably be more comfortable, but it's less portable.
The amount of data used is fairly large.
Back in the days when unlimited data plans were the norm, there wouldn't have been any problems.
However, we now live in an era where data communication capacity is limited.
Because it loads images of a reasonable quality for each page, you'll quickly hit the limit if you load too many.
This depends on the contract plan, but it's likely a disadvantage.
A large amount of data being loaded means that battery consumption will also be high.
others
It depends on the person, but some might say it's harder to jump to the previous page compared to a physical book.
Also, some might say that because they're so easy to buy, people tend to buy too much.
summary
I've written about various disadvantages and advantages,Basically, there's no doubt that ebooks are convenient.
Nevertheless, men in particular seem to have a desire to show off and want to fill their shelves with lots of books.
However, in the near future, paper books may become a luxury item.
