This is an article introducing "The One Before the Decisive Battle ~An Adventure Where Everyone Except the Protagonist Is in a Couple~," an adventure game made with RPG Maker MV.
This is a short adventure game that combines a unique setting, comedic elements, and intricate logic puzzles.
While the difficulty isn't high due to the numerous hints provided, it's a challenging game to complete in a limited number of playthroughs.

The time it took to complete the game and reach the TRUE ending was just under two hours.

Game Overview

The game begins with the hero Hitori and his party spending the night before their final battle in the last village, on their way to defeating the Demon King.
However, the next day, Hitori and the Demon King kill each other, and at the brink of death, he converses with God.

God says that if you can unravel the "truth" of the world, He will bring you back to life.
Therefore, Hitori repeatedly time leaps, reliving the night before and the day of the final battle with the Demon King.

What is the 'truth' of the world that God wants us to uncover?"Who are the couples?"That was it.

(The image above shows the combination as it appears at the start of the game.)

This game is a logic puzzle adventure where the goal is to gather information in the short period from the night before the decisive battle to the day of the battle, and to deduce the correct pairings of couples through logical reasoning.

By heading to the Demon King's castle, you will answer the combination questions, and if you get any combinations wrong, you will be sent back to the previous night.
Each time you make a mistake, you can receive advice from God, so it's a good idea to use that as a basis to solidify reliable combinations.

It's difficult to clear the game in a small number of loops, but even those who aren't good at deduction can get closer to clearing it by repeating the game many times.
It's important not only to talk to people, but also to examine the details of objects and buildings, and connect the pieces of the puzzle.

Review (no spoilers)

After the normal ending, I successfully reached the true ending and was able to enjoy the game all the way to the development room.
At first, I thought it was going to be some silly, one-joke game, but it turned out to be a well-made mystery adventure game.

It was necessary to gather evidence on foot, use that information to deduce the likely couple, and then proceed with the investigation based on that.
The game is interesting because it's not straightforward, with traps that exploit the player's preconceptions and elements of narrative trickery.

Even if the mystery hits a dead end and all the clues from God seem to have been exhausted, there's a kind of redemption mechanism, and I think it's a work that anyone can enjoy.
The true ending can be easily reached by anyone who has reached the normal ending, so there's no need to restart or go through any extra trouble.
In the development room, which you can access after reaching the true ending, there's a place where couples can check their answers, and it felt like the satisfaction of seeing the roles revealed after the conclusion of a werewolf game.

Due to the nature of the game, spoilers would ruin the fun.
The Read Me file also clearly outlines prohibited actions and other rules regarding social media posts, so be sure to read it.
